One of Türkiye’s rare scientists and statesmen, Prof. Dr. Necmettin Erbakan, left behind a rich legacy that encompassed both Turkish society and the international community. Throughout his life, he fought for the ideal of “A Livable Türkiye, A Great Türkiye Once Again, and A New World,” which became the source of this legacy. With a vast vision that started in Türkiye and extended to the world, Erbakan carried out multifaceted work throughout his life as both a scientist and a statesman. The driving force behind these efforts was always development. The industrial development initiatives he implemented in Türkiye culminated in the creation of the D-8 Economic Cooperation Organisation during his time as Prime Minister, extending beyond national borders.

Erbakan approached development from a multifaceted perspective, with science at the core of his work. Recognising that societies where science and culture thrive are those where industrial-focused development advances, the symposium will address Necmettin Erbakan’s understanding of Science, Culture, and Development.

In this regard, Prof. Dr. Necmettin Erbakan, whose biography, personality, scientific contributions, educational work, political and statesmanship roles were previously discussed in two national symposia organised by Necmettin Erbakan University, will be examined once again through the lens of his development ideal, one of the most important parts of the legacy he left behind, in the upcoming international symposium titled “Necmettin Erbakan on Science, Culture, and Development” hosted by our university. The symposium will be held in a hybrid format, both online and in-person, on February 27-28, 2025, at Necmettin Erbakan University.

We invite esteemed scholars to contribute to this symposium, which we believe will be crucial in better understanding Erbakan’s contributions to humanity and in carrying these contributions into the present and future.
